The Best Cordless Power Tool Brands
There are lots of power tool brands out there, from both sides of the Atlantic, and from the Far East. Each of these major brands is special in their own, unique way, with their expertise, innovations, and advantages.
In our opinion, the major contenders are Black & Decker, Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, and Milwaukee. The products that these companies make have the highest user ratings on Amazon and are also the best sellers – we’re here to give you our opinion on the benefits and downsides of their power tools.
If you want to know which particular brand is our favorite – it’s Bosch.
Black & Decker
One of two companies on our list that are based in Towson, Maryland (the other being DeWalt), the Black & Decker is well-known for their reliable and quality tools. Innovation is not a strange term to this company – they invented the portable electric drill in 1917.
Their tools are sometimes low on power, which might be pretty disappointing to buyers who are about to work on some heavy-duty projects.
Black & Decker sells some pretty good combo kits for the DIY enthusiasts, and we’ve reviewed one of them – the LDX120PK 20-Volt Drill and Project Kit.
This famous German company, based in Gerlingen, is well-known for their quality power tools. Their cordless tools are among the best on the market – they offer an amazing performance and reliability, as well as the occasional innovations. They’ve got some stellar 18V cordless drills – check out our review of the CLPK232A-181 18V combo kit.
Their 12V drills aren’t the best ones on the market, and the same could be said for some of their core tools.
Some of the best Bosch products are their cordless drills with the anti-kickback protection, their inductive charging systems, and especially their hybrid impact drivers. It is, overall, the best brand that there is.
Next up is the famous American worldwide brand of various power tools, based in Towson, Maryland. Their power tools are known for superb durability and functionality – some of the notable examples are the 2-speed brushless nailer and the 20V cordless press tool. They’re also very ergonomic and well-designed.
The only bad thing we can say about DeWalt is that their answers to competitor’s advancements are quite slow – we usually get tired of waiting for them, but they deliver in the end.
Best of DeWalt’s cordless products would include the DC970K-2 18-Volt combo kit, the brushless framing nailer, and the compact reciprocating saw.
Based in Anjō, Japan, Makita is probably the best manufacturer of power tools from that part of the world. They have a superb selection of 18V tools, and some incredible innovations when it comes to batteries and chargers. After all, these guys are from Japan, the most technologically advanced country on the planet.
Their line-up of 12V tools is quite limited, and they’re kind of slow at bringing certain models and their batteries to the USA and Europe.
Our favorite tools made by Makita are the XPH07 18V brushless hammer, 18V Cordless Oil Pulse Driver, and, of course, the LCT209W 12-Volt cordless drill.
Situated in Brookfield, Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation is known for their selection of the brushless tools in both battery sizes. Their cordless drills offer a corded-like performance – check out our review of the 2691-22 18-Volt combo kit.
Their tools can be especially expensive sometimes, since they’re innovators and often the first to bring the new tools to the market.
